I Never Said I was Martha Stewart...

So, every year when I was growing up, we made cut out sugar cookies on Halloween and Christmas. It is a recipe from my grandma and they are soooo yummy. They are easy to make and the kids love to help decorate (hence the glob of orange sprinkles). Here is the recipe:
1/2 c. shortening (1/2 butter)
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
just a touch of lemon extract
You really need to mix this up and let it chill over night for it to roll out good for you. Then flour your working surface, roll out, cut into shapes and bake at 425 degrees for 5-7 minutes. Oh and a single batch is NEVER enough for our house so we ALWAYS triple this recipe. It would also depend on how big your cookie cutters are.
We made pumpkins and bats for my 7year olds class and added them to the "witch" treat bags that had Halloween pencils, erasers, Dracula teeth and spider rings in them. So, off to the party we go, then hopefully a nap before trick or treating tonight!!!
